Joy Unspeakable, Touring, Autumn 2024 (Verbatim)

Joy Unspeakable is a new piece of verbatim theatre for women, girls and their allies. It explores eating disorders - why they are all about food, and nothing to do with food.

Currently in development with Ordinary Glory, Joy Unspeakable presents the testimonies of four women, each with a different eating disorder, and each at a different stage in the process of recovery. Grounded in an ethos of care, Joy Unspeakable rejects sensationalised representations of disordered eating and seeks to get under the skin of these complex experiences, asking to what extent they mask and reveal more profound disorders in our culture.

The show weaves together verbatim text, movement and live music on stage, combining moments of great tenderness and vulnerability, with moments of intense emotion and wildness.
