XYV, Hope Mill Theatre, 2021 (New Writing)

Now, or in a very near future, a mother and daughter face the tightening chokehold of patriarchal violence. The extreme acts that follow, could not be predicted, could they?

XYV is a formally experimental piece that explored gender, power and the future consequences of contemporary techno-scientific trends. It aimed to tell an epic story in the form of a short and used two multi-rolling performers to track the lives of six generations of women into an increasingly dystopian future.

XYV was presented as part of Vignettes, a platform for female talent that showcases new writing and is produced annually by HER Productions.

I prefer to allow the form of the work to be led by the subject, always starting with a radically blank sheet.
